Foamex is fully committed to recycling expanded polystyrene (EPS) manufacturing waste and converting EPS into other products. Our recycling facilities in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide serve EPS end-users, building and road construction sites and other EPS manufacturers.

Why is it important to dispose of EPS correctly?

Expanded polystyrene is used across a wide variety of industries and is often purpose moulded for specific use, meaning it may not be reusable, and, being bulky in nature, it occupies a lot of space in landfill. At Foamex we partner with our clients as well as communities to help raise awareness about the correct way to dispose of EPS.

By reusing all EPS manufacturing waste, virtually all EPS manufactured by Foamex is used for products, meaning we're reducing our usage at the source. Foamex’s granulating machines can reprocess and reduce moulded EPS into beads, which can then be reformed into new products.

Energy-saving qualities of EPS

Being fully recyclable is not the only benefit of using Styroboard EPS polystyrene. EPS is an ideal insulation material and can provide many energy saving benefits to further help improve our natural environment:

  • Insulates properties against the extremes of heat and cold, which in turn reduces the amount of energy required for household heating and cooling;
  • Practically impervious to water, which reduces spoilage and provides longevity;
  • Comprised of about 98 percent air, resulting in efficient use of raw material;
  • Lightweight to reduce consumption of transportation fuels;
  • Resilient to reduce breakage; and
  • Manufactured without the use of CFC's (Chloroflurocarbon).

Styroboard XPS: a truly green building product

Styroboard™ XPS extruded polystyrene is manufactured using a newly formulated blowing agent in partnership with Honeywell Australia. This innovative new manufacturing process means that Styroboard™ XPS is refrigerant free and produces no ozone depleting substances, making it a true green building product.

Foamex is a proud member of Recycling Expanded Polystyrene Australia (RESPA) and follows all recommended EPS distribution and clean-up responsibilities as outlined in the Pod Code of Practice.
